Primary schools in Singapore to shift to online learning as COVID cases surge

The primary schools in Singapore will shift to online learning for 10 days ahead of an important national examination, stated the education ministry on Saturday, as 935 fresh COVID-19 cases were reported on the previous day. This is the highest number since April 2020.

Students of primary 1 to 5 will shift to home-based learning from September 27 to October 6. Primary 6 students will have a study break for a few days starting September 25 before appearing for the national examination in order to minimize the chances of school-based transmissions and to diminish the number of children placed in quarantine.

There has been a rise in COVID-19 cases after some of the measures were relaxed, which led the authorities to halt further reopening. Over 80% of Singapore’s population has been vaccinated against COVID-19… (Reuters, September 18, 2021)
